In 2015, the Association of Universities in The Netherlands (VSNU) together with the National Research Foundation in The Netherlands (NWO) made it possible to start LingOA and thus flip the first 4 journals in linguistics to Fair Open Access. The six universities in the Netherlands with a linguistics department contributed the actual funding from the VSNU:      Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Universiteit Leiden, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and Universiteit Utrecht.

Mathematics in Open Access started in 2017 by flipping the journal Algebraic Combinatorics to Fair Open Access. The journal acknowledges the support of the Foundation Compositio Mathematica and of Réseau National des Bibliothèques de Mathématiques (RNBM).
