Creating a culture of publication integrity together

COPE brings together all those involved in scholarly research and its publication to strengthen the network of support, education and debate in publication ethics

Discussion
Harmful or criminal actions by authors or others, that do not primarily concern the integrity of the research itself, is the context of this discussion. Should "behavioural misconduct" be considered a form of research misconduct? What is the role of the editor?

Our core practices

Core practices are the policies and practices journals and publishers need, to reach the highest standards in publication ethics. We include cases with advice, guidance for day-to-day practice, education modules and events on topical issues, to support journals and publishers fulfil their policies.

Your publication ethics case

Do you have a publication ethics issue and need advice? COPE members can send cases to the COPE Forum or COPE Council for discussion and advice.

2022 has been a significant year for COPE as we celebrate 25 years of working together with communities who have an impact on integrity in research and its publication.

What is the role of the editor when harmful or criminal actions by authors come to light?

Academic misconduct, articles published at two journals, reviewer misconduct, exception to review policy, and guest editor for single articles. The latest cases with advice from the COPE Forum

At the Good Publication Practice Forum in Macau, Trevor Lane concentrated on the joint role that multiple stakeholders have in creating a positive research environment, culture, and climate.
