Statement of Values

We, the editors of CIL, value:

• The advancement of relevant and consequential research, theory, and practice in the area of postsecondary information literacy;
• The free and open dissemination of CIL’s published articles, and the right of our authors to retain ownership of their work;
• The editorial independence and freedom to publish scholarly works without undue influence from any commercial entity, educational institution, or professional association;
• The freedom of authors to produce and disseminate scholarship without undue constraint;
• The responsibility of authors to their peers and to society at large to produce scholarship that meets the library and information field’s highest professional standards of quality and rigor;
• The production and dissemination of scholarship that complies with relevant governmental and institutional policies, and which serves the library field and the public good;
• Social justice and the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which inform all aspects of this journal’s operations;
• Practicing care in our relationships with authors, peer reviewers, readers, and colleagues.

CIL may decline manuscripts that do not align with the values articulated here.
