Call for Guest Editors
Networking Knowledge invites prospective guest editors to propose special issues for future publication in the journal. This is an excellent opportunity for postgraduate and early career researchers to gain experience in all aspects of peer-reviewed journal publication.
About Us
Networking Knowledge is the official publication of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network. It is a fully-indexed, open-access, peer-reviewed journal, run exclusively by, and featuring content solely from, postgraduate and early career researchers.
Networking Knowledge nurtures academic talent in the fields of media, communication and cultural studies, offering early career scholars a vibrant space for innovative scholarly debate, through opportunities to publish their work and to get involved in all stages of the editorial process.
About the Role
Guest editing a special issue of the journal involves taking the issue through each stage of the production process, from initial proposal to publication. Guest editors are supported throughout the process by the Editor-in-Chief, who will oversee production and prepare the finished articles for online publication. Individual and group guest editorships are welcome. Previous editorial and/or reviewing experience is desirable, but not essential.
Proposed themes may be drawn from any subject area in media, communication and cultural studies. They should represent a specific cutting-edge research focus while remaining open enough to accommodate a range of disciplinary, methodological and/or geographical fields. We particularly encourage proposals centred on current pressing issues, and those that challenge methodological and theoretical boundaries, advancing interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research. Some of our previous special issues include ‘Exploring the Intersections of Fashion, Film and Media ‘, ‘Time and Technology in Popular Culture, Media and Communication’ and ‘Climate, Creatures and COVID-19: Environment and Animals in Twenty-First Century Media Discourse’.
We are looking for guest editors who:
- Have excellent written communication skills and a good eye for detail.
- Are invested in producing immaculately presented, accessible documents for publication.
- Are comfortable working independently while feeding back regularly and remaining accountable to the journal, the Editor-in-Chief and the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network Committee.
- Are organised and prepared to manage the publication timeframe for their special issue, including setting and managing deadlines and communicating timeously with different stakeholders.
- Are committed to taking their special issue through the entire production process.
How to Apply
Proposals should take the form of an abstract of no more than 300 words, which should include a working title, issue outline and brief explanation of existing relevant research and what the special issue will seek to contribute. A biography (including name, institution and email address) of no more than 200 words for each prospective guest editor should also be provided. We accept proposals on a rolling basis.
Proposals, and any questions, should be sent to the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Jen Mclevey, at jm981@exeter.ac.uk
