For contemporary Minangkabau society then, attending public performances in the West Sumatran homeland are no longer the only way of enjoying and appreciating oral literature. Media genres available on commercial cassettes and video compact discs (VCD), Minangkabau perantaus, as well as those domiciled in West Sumatra, are able to appreciate their traditional verbal arts in the privacy of their own home. The same is observed of the kinds of recording in Malaysia. Minangkabau perantaus have been here for generations, embraced within the larger Malay society and the Alam Melayu (Malay World)—a geographical spread transcending the Archipelago. Minangkabau oral traditions and media extend through the rantau – not only in Kuala Lumpur, but also in Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Jambi, Medan, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Batam and Denpasar. A new audience is created. This is an empirical fragment in what can be called Malay Media Studies.
2022-12-01T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2022 Professor http://jpmm.um.edu.my/index.php/JPMM/article/view/36037 Adult learners' adjustment and its effects toward online course during pandemic: The case of Malaysia Financial Planning Council (MFPC) 2022-06-01T07:12:58+08:00 Noor Jawahir Ismail jawahir_ismail@yahoo.com Wardatul Hayat Adnan wardatul@uitm.edu.my
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a significant effect on every country’s economy, particularly in the education sector. Some of the consequences include lockdowns, quarantines, social distancing and institutional closures. Adapting and adjusting to new learning standards was difficult due to a variety of demographic backgrounds among students, especially adult learners. Thus, the current research aims to investigate characteristics that contribute to adult adjustment and their influence on their knowledge of online courses. A quantitative study was done among 235 respondents in a Malaysian independent body namely the Malaysian Financial Planning Council located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Identifying the right elements will assist the training facility in giving the right and quality training to its audience.

2022-12-01T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2022 Jurnal Pengajian Media Malaysia http://jpmm.um.edu.my/index.php/JPMM/article/view/38504 Self-regulation practice of advertising industry in Malaysia: Outlook of industry players awareness and application.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the experiences of advertising practitioners and advertising agencies creative teams in Malaysia specifically within the process of modifying creative output with reference to the two self-regulatory rules that govern the advertising industry in Malaysia. Players in the industry are required to take responsibility and abide by the rules outlined in two Advertising Self-Regulations (ASR) that are part of the Malaysian Code of Advertising Practise and the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia. In this study, in-depth interviews were conducted as a part of the qualitative method to get critical feedback on the holistic view of ASR. A total of nine informants representing three categories of senior industry insiders such as regulators, advertising practitioners and creative agency members were involved through in-depth interviews through the selection of purposive sampling method. The study has revealed many advertising practitioners have recognised their internal and external duties to guarantee a favourable image from the creative material they generated or authorised. Which have also reflected mostly positive outcomes through the concept of knowledge, relevancy, and acceptance of the code of practise.
2022-12-01T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2022 Jurnal Pengajian Media Malaysia http://jpmm.um.edu.my/index.php/JPMM/article/view/38238 Penonjolan isu media arus perdana, media alternatif dan media kerajaan di laman twitter 2022-08-02T17:40:33+08:00 Jamali Bujang Sanawi bsjamali@unimas.my Normah Mustaffa normahm@ukm.edu.my Shahrul Nazmi Sannusi nazmy@ukm.edu.my
The change of government that took place after the GE 14 demanded a review to be carried out on the pattern of agenda setting among the news media in this country, especially on social media. Therefore, this study examines how the mainstream media, alternative media and government media set their issue’s salience agenda on Twitter during the pre and post GE 14. A total of 7,533 tweets from six media organisations namely Berita Harian, The Star, Malaysiakini, Free Malaysia Today, BERNAMA and RTM were downloaded and analysed. A content analysis, bivariate correlation analysis and time-lagged analysis were conducted to identify the
hierarchical pattern of issue’s salience and the causal relationship between issue’s salience agendas between these media. From the analysis, it was found that the mainstream media, the alternative media and the government media have a different inclinations in setting up their most important issue on Twitter during the pre and post GE 14. Mainstream media were found to place sports issues as the most important issue on their agenda on Twitter, while for alternative and government media, political issues and issues of national administration and governance were their top priorities. Meanwhile, the transition of the government post GE 14 also has an impact on the causal relationship between agendas involving the mainstream media, the alternative media and the government media on Twitter. For instance, during the pre GE 14 period, the agenda of the mainstream media did not have a significant relationship with the agenda of the government media. However during the post GE 14 period, the agenda of the two media was found to have a
significant relationship. In the context of the causal relationship, the two media did not have a mutual influence on each other during the pre GE 14 period, but this situation changed after the GE 14. As for the alternative media, its relationship with the government media also changed after GE 14 in which its agenda no longer influences the government’s media agenda and vice versa. During the pre GE 14 period, the two media were found to have mutually influenced each other in their agenda on Twitter.

2022-12-01T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2022 Jurnal Pengajian Media Malaysia http://jpmm.um.edu.my/index.php/JPMM/article/view/39320 Analisis kritikal thriller dalam novel Aku Lelakimu (2017) karya Sara Aisha 2022-11-13T22:17:30+08:00 Nur Nabila Zulkhairi 2020608154@student.uitm.edu.my Izra Inna Md Idris izrainna@uitm.edu.my Siti Normala Hamzah normalahamzah@uitm.edu.my
A Critical Analysis of Thriller in the novel Aku Lelakimu (2017) by Sara Aisya discusses thriller elements based on the storyline in the novel.
