The following letter, in English, French and Spanish, was addressed to everyone who joined us for the recent conference in Cartagena, Colombia and to all members of IAMCR.

Eight graduate students from the Universidad Autónoma Nacional de México (UNAM) were among the more than 100 participants from Mexico who attended IAMCR 2017. In their reflections on the conference (in Spanish) they say it reaffirmed the value of communication research and knowledge and the important role of IAMCR as a global space for dialogue. More than 1,400 papers and panels were confirmed for presentation at IAMCR 2017. We prepared a book with the abstracts scheduled for presentation within each section and working group.
It is with great sadness that IAMCR informs its members of the passing of Professor Denis McQuail. He died peacefully on Sunday 25th June. According to a note from his family, Denis McQuail remained sharp as ever, scribbling notes and thoughts about academic theory on the back of envelopes and scraps of paper right up to the end.
On 8 June a letter was sent to the authors invited to present their work at the IAMCR annual conference in Cartagena, Colombia from 16-20 July. It includes information on the draft programme, the party in the Plaza de la Aduana, how to submit full papers, and a reminder to register for anyone who hasn't yet. 1,300 people are currently registered for IAMCR 2017.
On 12 April a letter was sent to the authors of the 1,800 papers that have been invited to present their work at IAMCR annual conference in Cartagena, Colombia from 16-20 July. It includes information on registration, on the abstracts that have been accepted for presentation, on confirming participation, and on invitation letters for visa or other purposes.
Professor Dipak De, a long-time IAMCR member and supporter, was presented with a Dedicated Contribution Award in a ceremony during the closing session of IAMCR's 2015 conference in Montreal.
