Section Head Election 2016 - Candidate statements
Mediated Communication, Public Opinion and Society Section
The IAMCR Mediated Communication, Public Opinion and Society Section will hold elections for chair and vice-chair during the section business meeting at the upcoming conference in Leicester (Sunday 31th July 2016 9:00pm to 10:30Room: Ken Edwards, 528).
The current section Chair, Hillel Nossek, will step down as head. The current Vice-chair, Corinna Lüthje, is running for chair of the section.
Nominations and self-nominations are welcome. Interested candidates should send their name, institutional position and a statement (maximum 500 words) to the current chair, Hillel Nossek, <hnossek[at]gmail.com> with a copy to IAMCR General Secretary Maria Michalis <M.Michalis[at]westminster.ac.uk> and to the IAMCR secretariat <membership[at]iamc.org>. Candidate nominations and statements must be received at least two weeks before the conference (July 13, 2016). The statements will be posted on the Section and Working Group Candidate Statements page.

Statemements
Corinna Lüthje, University of Rostock, Germany
Dr. Corinna Lüthje currently is senior researcher at the University of Rostock where she conducts a research project which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) regarding the mediatisation of scientific communication. She attained the degree of a Magistra Artium from the University of Lüneburg and holds a PhD (Dr. Phil) in Communication Sciences from the University of Hamburg where she worked for more than nine years. Before coming to Rostock she spent a year as a visiting Professor at the University of Dresden. Her main areas of research are sociology and history of communication, mediatisation, hazard communication, and science communication. She has been Vice-Head of the IAMCR’s Section "Mediated Communication, Public Opinion, and Societey“ (MCPOS) since 2012.
Susanne Eichner, Aarhus University, Denmark
Susanne Eichner (Dr. phil.) is Associate Professor at Aarhus University, School of Communication and Culture, Media Studies (Denmark). She holds a PhD (Dr. phil.) from the Filmuniversity Potsdam-Babelsberg, Germany, where she worked and taught for more than ten years. Before coming to Aarhus she worked at the University of Bayreuth on a research project on children and media food and at the University of Rostock as deputy professor for communication and media studies. In her research she employs a cross-media approach focusing on reception aesthetics and audience research, media sociology (media action theory), production ecology and popular (serial) culture. She has published several articles and book chapters on video games, television and audience research. She is the author of the book Agency and Media Reception. Experiencing Video Games, Film, and Television (2014) and editor of Fernsehen: Europäische Perspektiven (2014, with Elizabeth Prommer) and Transnationale Serienkultur (2013, with Lothar Mikos and Rainer Winter). Her current research activities encompass the development of a theoretical perspective on media action theory and “doing media” and the collaboration in a research project on the international success of Danish Drama series.
